Awards/RecognitionTerm/Monthly AwardsALUMNI/WANG CENTER MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Douglas Purdy Douglas Purdy is from Medford, Massachusetts. He has been working out on a regular basis for about 4-5 years. His fitness goals for the next year are to keep up weekly workouts and possibly join a masters swim team. When asked what he likes about Alumni/Wang he said “We are so fortunate here at MIT to not have one pool, but two. And that they are available starting early morning through the evening is very convenient, so we swimmers can’t use the excuse that the pool was closed.” Doug works as support staff here at MIT. His hobbies are writing fiction, reading literature, watching film, baseball and Guinness.

Our members of the month for the Zesiger Center are: Shanette Go & Rachel Buchhorn. To learn more about these two fitness superstars we asked them a few questions.
Fit: Where are you from originally?
Shanett e: I am from Avon, CT Rachel: I am from Austin, TX Fit: How long have you two been working out?
R & S: We’ve been working out together since this past summer! But we both played a lot of sports before coming to college. Fit: What, or who, is your inspiration for your dedication to health and fitness?
R & S: We inspire/motivate each other! (Especially at 6:30 AM in the morning, it’s nice to know that someone else will be there to work out with you) Fit: What do you like best about working out at the Z Center?
R & S: (Jokingly) The higher percentage of cute and physically fit men. In reality: We really feel energized and ready to tackle our days after our early morning workouts. Fit: What do you like to do at the Z Center? What are some of your favorite workouts or exercises?
R & S: Combo of cardio and strength! Squash, elliptical, running, weights, core strengthening. Shanette “I LOVE the elliptical!!”and Rachel “I love the treadmill!” Fit: What are your fitness goals for the next 6 months? Year?
Shanette: I am graduating and want to continue my workout routine in my new location (Rochester, MN) and maintain my current level of fitness. Eventually run a half marathon within the next year!
