Al '51 and Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center

The Al '51 and Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center has been considered an architectural marvel since first opening its doors to the MIT community in the Fall of 2002. Hailed for its extensive programming possibilities as well as its breathtaking glass facade, the Zesiger Center was honored as one of 10 national Facility of Merit Winners at the 22nd Annual Athletic Business Conference on December 5, 2003 in the Orlando County Convention Center. The awards program recognizes facilities that set the design and functionality standard for athletic, recreation and fitness projects.

The Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center features a triple-height natatorium, complete with an Olympic-size pool, a separate, eight-lane, 25-yard instructional pool as well as amphitheater seating for 450 spectators. A myriad of fitness rooms, six international squash courts, a multipurpose activity court, locker rooms and administrative offices for athletics, physical education and recreation complement the facility's most prominent feature.

The Thomas P. Gerrity Health Fitness Center is the main fitness complex containing several forms of fitness equipment. It is located on both the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Zesiger Center.

The Muckley MAC Court is the main area for recreation in the Zesiger Center including activities such as indoor basketball, volleyball, soccer, inline skating and floor hockey, as well as some of the group exercise programs.

The Folger, Steinman and Jules squash courts are housed on the third floor of the Zesiger Center. This area has six international sized squash courts with spectator seating. Court 6 is open for drop in recreation as a challenge court.
