 Anthony Morelli - April 2012

The Alumni/Wang Fitness Center is proud to honor its April 2012 Member of the Month: Anthony Morelli.
Anthony is originally from Closter, NJ, but currently lives in Bronx, NY.  Both of Anthony’s parents are trained classical bassoonists, and his father is still a professional classical bassoonist in New York and a professor of the bassoon.  He grew up in the classical music world and spent every summer until he was 16 traveling to music festivals around the country and the world.  Currently, he is finishing up his undergraduate degree this year at MIT, in Computer Science and Engineering.  Anthony started exercising in middle school on the track team. He competed in track throughout high school and during his freshman year at MIT.  After tearing his hamstring freshman year, he switched focus and started exercising more for his own enjoyment and fulfillment than for competition.  Anthony loves the fact that the Alumni/Wang facility is very well equipped, without being cramped.  The facility everything he needs, which allows him to create his own work out program.  His biggest exercise passion is cycling, but has also recently fallen in love with rock climbing too!    His main exercise goal is, “to achieve a level of fitness where there’s nothing I want to do that’s out of reach.”  Whether it’s riding a century or backpacking through the White Mountains, Anthony says it’s great to know that he can handle and accomplish pretty much anything in the fitness world.    Anthony’s inspiration comes from all the athletes that enjoy training and competing for the sheer joy of the activity.  With his new exercise focus, he always tries to ensure that he’s training purely for the enjoyment of doing the sport, whatever it is.  When Anthony isn’t working hard at the gym, he enjoys rock climbing, music, and generally spending as much time as possible being active and outdoors.   He has also studied jazz saxophone for many years, and currently plays in a funk group and a jazz combo through the music department at MIT.  He also devotes a lot of time to the Gordon-MIT Engineering Leadership Program as a second year student and the current Student Leader.
