Yoga for Youngsters Register Now

Children’s imaginations run wild! In Yoga for Youngsters, we combine an outlet for creativity and imagination with physical activity. Classes all involve some type of yoga “adventure” whether that is going to the jungle or taking a trip to the zoo or the beach. Content will include yoga poses, breathing exercises, meditation, yoga songs, yoga games, and finish with a short yoga or meditation related story. Ages 4-6 years.

Ice Skate Group Lessons (Base level on ability, not age)

New to the Ice Register Now

Calling all newbies! Join your neighbors and professional figure skating instructors for fun, weekly group lessons at MIT’s Johnson Ice Rink.  This class is for youngsters who have never been on the ice before.  In New to the Ice skaters will learn how to safely fall and stand back up on the ice, three ways to forward skate, forward gliding, and be introduced to backward skating. Participants must provide their own skates. Helmets are recommended for this level (bike helmets work great).

Learning Skills Register Now

Learning skills is for youth who have been on the ice before and are interested in learning specific skills to improve their skating.  In this class, instructors will review ice safety and forward skating.  Skaters will learn one and two foot forward and backward gliding, two-foot turning, and stopping.  Participants must provide their own skates.  Helmets are recommended for this level (bike helmets work great).

Improving Techniques Register Now

This class is for individuals with skating experience but no or limited instructional experience.   Skaters will learn the proper technique for forward stroking, backward stroking, learn about inside and outside edges, two ways of stopping, crossovers, and more.  For this class, skaters should be comfortable on the ice and be able to follow direction. Participants must provide their own skates.

Kid Zone Register Now

The MIT Kid Zone is a new program that offers children the chance to get the recommended amount of exercise, which is at least 60 minutes a day. We will open up the Mult-activity court (MAC) for play and games led by an instructor. This will be more of an “open gym” type of set up. Ages 4-7 years.
