Alumni Pool is temporarily CLOSED!
We’re here to answer every question about the Alumni Pool Renewal Project. This webpage has been created to keep you up to date on all of the operational changes, project progress, and pertinent information you need to know!
Updates: (as of 9/6/23)
- Overnight construction has completed with the demo of the pool deck.
- Day time (6:00am – 2:00pm) repair work will start on 9/18/2023 and continue for approx. 10-12 weeks.
- NOTE: This work will be loud at times and might be heard throughout the fitness center. Free single use ear plugs will be available at the Alumni/Wang Main Desk.
The Alumni Pool Renewal Project scope of work includes:
- Replacement and repair of damaged structural concrete floor slabs, beams, and foundations walls
- Repair and installation of waterproofing at the concrete pool deck
- Replacement of the tile finish on the concrete pool deck and bench
- Installation of a desiccant dryer system in the basement
- Concrete repairs will require moving extensive mechanical components in order to gain access to the concrete
These measures will help protect the pool from accelerated deterioration of the concrete and help restore the pool for continued use by the community for years to come.
Temporary membership accommodations are available to any swimmers who routinely swim at Alumni, these include:
- Locker Rental at Zesiger Center/DuPont: We will hold your Alumni locker while also giving you the opportunity to rent a locker at the Z Center or DuPont locker rooms for no additional fee (pending availability). Quick FAQ’s
Q: When is Alumni Pool closing?
A: Alumni Pool will be closed beginning Monday March 27th as part of the Alumni/Wang full fitness shutdown. The Alumni Pool Renewal project is expected to last between 8-11 months in total. Updates on the pool maintenance can be found on this landing page and on our social media accounts.
Q: I only workout at Alumni — will I still be able to access the fitness facilities?
A: Yes. Outside of the Alumni/Wang shutdown taking place on March 27th-31st, you will be able to access the Alumni fitness area, spin studio and locker rooms. There may be short term disruptions in fitness area and locker room access as the project progresses, we will communicate these as quickly as we can.
Q: Should I elect to do so, how do I change my locker reservation during this project?
A: We will hold your Alumni locker while also giving you the opportunity to rent a locker at the Z Center or DuPont locker rooms for no additional fee (pending availability). Fill out this form to submit your request to relocate your locker or to place your locker on hold for no fee.
Q: If I ultimately move to the Zesiger pool for my swim workouts, what do I need to know about swimming there?
A: Our Z Center pool schedule is built similarly to Alumni’s and open lanes and are easy to navigate on our Pool Schedule page. The Z center teaching pool is a 6 lane, 25 yard pool. The competition pool can be set up in 50 meter lanes and 25 yard lanes. Those will be specified on the pool schedule. We do go to 50 meters during much of the summer. We always encourage you to check the pool schedule before each visit. Additionally, we may be offering clinics within the Zesiger pools to help folks transferring feel more acclimated so stay tuned for more information on those!
